Semi official Fars news agency however, close to the Islamic Revolution Passdaran Guards Corps (IRGC), published a statement it claimed was written by ten conservative student groups, harshly attacking Karoubi.
The statement’s authors write, “You have characterized the arrests as unreasonable. The confessions of those arrested have not yet convinced you that there was a reason for their arrest? It is not clear why Messieurs Mousavi and Khatami are not summoned to court as people involved in the disturbances after your friends’ confessions?”
The statement continues by attacking Karoubi, asking why he is worried about the fate of the detainees: “Aren’t the people in detention today the same people who killed a number of our friends and fellow citizens under the leadership of treacherous foreign groups and terrorist sects? You support these people and are worried about their condition? Truly, why? The people who come from prison to court and confess admit to these things themselves, but you refuse to believe that they were the agents of England and France.”
